ST. GEORGE, UT — August 1, 2026 — Is stem cell therapy FDA-approved? Dr. Daren Brooks, D.O.
The FDA has approved only a limited number of stem cell products, nearly all of them hematopoietic stem cell products derived from umbilical cord blood, used to treat blood and immune disorders. Stem cell injections marketed for chronic back pain, joint pain, or anti-aging use have generally not received the same approval.
The FDA regulates human cell and tissue products under two frameworks: minimally-manipulated same-day autologous products face lighter requirements, while more heavily processed products are regulated like drugs, requiring full clinical trials before marketing.
The FDA has warned consumers about clinics marketing stem cell products with misleading claims. Red flags include guarantees of a cure, one product treating unrelated conditions, pressure to pay upfront, and vague sourcing information.
At The Bridge Health Recovery Center in New Harmony, Utah, our approach to chronic pain is rooted in transparency about what is proven, what is promising, and what remains experimental, helping guests make informed decisions grounded in real evidence.
“Recovery is possible with the right, evidence-based support — that is the work we do every day at The Bridge.” — Dr. Daren Brooks, D.O., Founder & CEO, The Bridge Health Recovery Center
